I kept calling these things varmits instead of marmots when I'd see them while I was hiking.

marmots are funny to see, i think it is odd to see something small and brown and fuzzy among the barren boulder fields.

I was definitely surprised when I saw one. I didn't think there would be anything that big up at that altitude.

there are bears and elk at that altitude as well, but that's about it.
